Resin-Bonded & Resin-Bound Decorative Surfacings

Our Resin decorative surfacing's are composed of aggregate {Various Grades; 0.5-1mm/ 1-3mm/ 2-5mm/ 6-10mm}  & one of the following resin;

-         Epoxy

-         Polyurethane

-         Methyl Methacrylate (MMA)

We supply and lay two principle systems:

Resin bonded systems (Ennis Flint’s Stonegrip® system) consist of a thin membrane of resin, dressed with a scatter-coat of a selected aggregate. The overall depth is of the largest chosen aggregate (Typically 1 to 5mm deep). It provides an attractive impervious gravel-like finish, without the burden of loose stone which is more economic than resin bound. Its laying season is April – Sept, pending ground temperature, cold-wet weather and dew in the air as the resin is sensitive to moisture before curing. It is recommended to be applied to asphalt for optimal results, but can with addition of a seal coat be applied to SMA & asphalt concrete/macadam, or to a suitably brush finished & primed concrete.

Resin bound systems consist of resin mixed with a selected aggregate, then float finished to approximately three times the depth of the aggregate used (Typically 12 to 40mm; usually 18mm deep for most applications). It provides an attractive porous surface but with a smoother finish in comparison to resin bonded. Properties allow use of this system within SUD systems and Tree Pit surrounds. Its laying season is March – Oct, pending ground temperature & cold-wet weather. It is not as constrained as the bonded system with regards to the underlying substrate required, as long as it is structurally sound.

Northstone has laid these extremely durable, non-slip, and aesthetically pleasing systems on footpaths, footbridges, pedestrian precincts, driveways, landscaping schemes and car parks throughout Ireland.

The Resin and/or aggregate can be pigmented to complement each other. A wide range of aggregate colour is available to highlight, contrast or complement specific features.
