High powered study group visit Carmean

On their recent field trip to Northern Ireland to study magmatism and volcanism in the Province, members of the Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group found time to slot Carmean into their busy itinerary.

Their week-long trip took them to the Mourne, Slieve Gullion and the Carlingford igneous complexes, before finishing, via Carmean, with the volcanic rocks exposed on the north coast between Ballintoy and Portrush, including the world-famous Giant's Causeway.

The group were very keen to see the volcanic dykes and faulting which are so well displayed at Carmean.
