Kerry Leonard, environmental consultant, and moth recorder for County Londonderry, has just completed the second of two moth trapping sessions at our Hutchinsons sand depot on the shores of Lough Neagh.
The opportunity to come along on Saturday morning to see the moths that had been caught was made available to Northstone employees, families and friends.
Half a dozen turned up, including Stephen Smyth, Area Sales Manager for concrete, and his two young sons, James and Daniel. Stephen and his boys found the experience very interesting, "Thanks for the chance to attend… really enjoyed it".
Catherine Kennedy, who is studying ecological sciences at university, thought that "The moth trapping event was well worth the early start; not only did I get close to one of Northern Ireland's most adorable moths – the Canary Shouldered Thorn – I also benefitted from Kerry Leonard's expert knowledge on moth trapping and the chance to meet other people like me who love nature. I was amazed by the diversity of moths that make Hutchinson's sand depot their home."
